I really don’t like cooking. I hate the measuring, I hate going to the market, I hate the precise timing of it all, and I hate the waste of tossing old grocery items. If I could afford takeout every night, believe me, I would do it. Alas, I don’t have an infinite bank account (or the metabolism of a teenager) so cooking seemed like my only disappointing option. See, I don’t just hate cooking, I’m also not very good at it. I enjoy good food, but have neither the time nor the skill to make it myself.
I thought my solution lay in all those online meal kits. But after trying a bunch, I realized I was doing a ton of work (and spending a lot of time) making a few dinners, and then still had to fend for myself the rest of the week. That’s when I stumbled upon Hungryroot. I kept seeing these Instagram ads about free cookie dough (that really got my attention) and read some online reviews. They offered a huge discount off your first delivery, so I decided to try it out. What’s my verdict?
Well, let’s start with what you get. Instead of a few meals, you get tons of groceries for not only creating quick (under 10 minutes) and healthy meals (nutrient-dense, under 500 calories), but also for stocking up your fridge and getting through the week. I just took a quiz and answered questions all about the way I like to eat and my goals, and Hungryroot knew exactly what groceries I’d love for breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, and even dessert. They also have this tool called SmartCart™ that fills my cart each week. Honestly, they probably know what I want for dinner before I even do. Pretty cool, right?
All of the recipes are delicious, but to be honest, my favorite part is just how easy the food is to prepare. They include recipes with crazy-easy instructions with your groceries, and most of the time all you really need is one pan and 10 minutes. Believe me, if I could do it, you could do it. You literally just have to combine 3-4 ingredients to make quick, healthy combinations (which is great when you’re hungry, and when you’re cleaning up after).
So while I still don’t love cooking, Hungryroot makes it so easy that I barely even notice. And while I may crave pizza every now and then, Hungryroot makes it so easy to eat healthy that I find myself rarely ordering in.
